Diwali, the festival of lights, is eagerly anticipated in India. It is a time of celebration marked by the bursting of crackers, the exchange of gifts, the lighting of lamps, and the sharing of sweets. At the core of Diwali lies the worship of Goddess Lakshmi in every household. It is believed that she visits every home, blessing them with financial abundance and prosperity, provided she is pleased in the right manner. She is also believed to remove obstacles and clear hurdles, especially in the initiation of any business.

Goddess Lakshmi is considered the deity of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune. During Diwali night, she is worshipped alongside other deities like Lord Ganesha, Lord Kubera, and Goddess Saraswati. Each deity is associated with different aspects of life and is worshipped to seek their combined blessings. While people persistently strive to worship in the right manner, they often overlook the basic disciplines that can enhance the effectiveness of their rituals. This article explains various steps suggested by astrologers to follow when worshipping to successfully appease Goddess Lakshmi.

Clear the clutter

Diwali preparations typically commence with a thorough cleaning of every possible corner of the house. The level of cleanliness during Diwali is unmatched; it is a once-a-year experience. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi prefers to visit homes that are free of clutter. That is why decluttering holds utmost importance as it invites the positive energy of Goddess Lakshmi.

Decoration

Diwali is a celebration of joy, evident from the vibrant decorations throughout the country. From lights, rangolis, and diyas to other elements, the decorations hold symbolic significance. Diyas, or earthen lamps, symbolize the victory of light over darkness. Rangolis are colorful patterns that welcome Goddess Lakshmi into the home.

Perform Lakshmi puja at night

Diwali always falls on the day of the new moon (Amavasya), considered an auspicious time for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. Ensure the proper ritual and availability of the needed ‘puja-samagri’ to worship the deity.

Recite Lakshmi mantra

While worshipping, it is essential to recite the dedicated mantra to the deity to appease her. The mantra for Goddess Lakshmi is - Om Hreem Shreem Lakshmibhayo Namah. Chant it 11 times to seek her blessings.

Use Gomti Chakra

Take 11 Gomti Chakras and apply turmeric powder to them. Wrap these chakras in yellow cloth and place them near her image or idol, performing the worship accordingly.

Use auspicious elements

Various auspicious elements are used in Hindu tradition. Make use of swastika and om symbols, banana leaves, mango tree wood, etc., to adorn the entrance.

Donate to the needy

Try donating items of basic needs, food, and money to the poor and needy. Goddess Lakshmi is pleased by acts of charity and generosity, rewarding those who share their wealth with others.
