In astrology, each zodiac sign is influenced by a ruling planet which governs their traits and behaviors. Think of this like a dominion, that is influenced by the traits of its ruling party. The entire land that comes in this dominion and where it is mapped in this space have different distributions of the same traits, but it is helpful to recognize what goes on when trying to understand the zodiac system accurately, as not a single sign can be perceived independent of each other. If your Moon is in Capricorn, it matters which house it is in, because each one of those houses is governed by different ruling planets.
We divide these planets into three groups based on their influence and characteristics, and in them, we divide all these planets based on their traits and behaviors.
Luminaries: This group refers to your Sun and Moon, and while not technically a planet, we refer to them as such for convenience. They move very quickly from sign to sign, at least in terms of the giant cosmic stage, and hence they are said to influence day-to-day and other short-term issues.
Inner Planets: This subgroup includes Mercury, Venus, and Mars. They are the fastest moving planets and each of them represents different but vital parts in the anatomy of a human personality.
Social Planets: These planets are Jupiter and Saturn. They have a broader societal impact, as opposed to interpersonal dynamics, they pertain to societal presentation, representation, and communication.
Alongside these, we also have outer planets. Planets like
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto
are categorized in this, but they move too slowly from sign to sign to have any real effect on the short-term lifespan of an individual, often spanning generations in effect. They influence long-term trends and growth.
Scorpios, though traditionally ruled by Mars, is one of the signs that claim these outer planets as the ruling planet. In modern perceptions, this planet is governed by Pluto. It adds intensity and transformation alongside depth to Scorpio’s passionate nature, also giving them an aura of being wise beyond their age.
Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, which sparks innovation, independence, and humanitarian ideals. Pisces is ruled by Neptune, it connects them to their dreams, intuition, and the spiritual realm.
These planets have wider connotations, alongside categorically beneficial and destructive energies. For example, Jupiter and Venus are known to be the better planets—the planets that influence good energies. But Saturn and Mars, well they’re known for not being too
hot. They’re tougher to navigate, represent troubles, and often the harsher side to justice. However, it all comes together, because together, everything balances each other, and all these planets play an extremely important role in the lifecycle of an individual.
